Trump Discloses Over $50 Million in Bitcoin Held in Cold Storage, Plus $1.2 Billion in Crypto Income

President Donald Trump's annual financial disclosure, released Tuesday by the U.S. Office of Government Ethics, confirmed what the Bitcoin community had long speculated: the sitting president holds Bitcoin in self-custody cold storage. The 927-page filing also revealed over $1.2 billion in crypto-related income for 2025, driven largely by meme coin royalties, a combination that is already reshaping the political calculus around Bitcoin legislation.

WHAT THE DISCLOSURE SHOWS

The filing lists two separate cryptocurrency wallet positions identified as "cryptocurrency wallet virtual bitcoin key (held in cold wallet)," each valued at over $50 million. One is held through the Trump Revocable Trust; the other through CIC Digital LLC, the entity linked to Trump's meme coin operation. Vice President JD Vance's separate disclosure, just 17 pages compared to Trump's 927, shows Bitcoin holdings valued between $250,000 and $500,000.

Beyond the Bitcoin positions, Trump disclosed $5 million to $25 million in Ethereum being staked on Coinbase, an additional stablecoin position in USDC in the same range, and a smaller position in what appears to be a USD-denominated stablecoin. For a sitting president whose policy team has publicly championed Bitcoin, the presence of altcoin and stablecoin holdings drew immediate notice in the Bitcoin community.

THE MEME COIN NUMBER

The headline figure in the disclosure is not the Bitcoin. It is $635 million in royalties attributed to a group called "Celebration Coins," linked by Bloomberg to CIC Digital LLC, Trump's meme coin business. On top of that, the filing shows more than $515 million in net proceeds from token sales distributed by World Liberty Financial, the Trump-linked decentralized finance venture, plus $65 million from equity sales in WLF's holding company. Total crypto income for 2025 clears $1.2 billion.

Trump responded to the disclosure by distancing himself from its contents, saying his finances are managed by institutions he does not communicate with directly. "I don't talk to them. I don't even speak to them," he told reporters.

THE BITCOIN SIGNAL INSIDE THE NOISE

On the Simply Bitcoin Live show, the host made the case that the cold storage Bitcoin positions reveal something the meme coin headlines obscure: the Trump administration appears genuinely committed to Bitcoin as a long-term asset, not just a political talking point. The president and vice president are both holding spot Bitcoin, not just ETF exposure. That distinction matters.

The host drew on a simple principle: watch what they do, not what they say. A president holding eight figures in self-custodied Bitcoin, alongside a vice president quietly maintaining a six-figure Bitcoin stack, is a different signal than a policy speech.

THE POLITICAL RISK

The meme coin income creates a concrete problem for Bitcoin's reputation and for the legislative agenda. The CLARITY Act, the crypto market structure bill currently stalled in the Senate, is now directly entangled with the disclosure's optics. Democrats pushing for ethics restrictions on officials' crypto activities have new ammunition. If Republicans lose the House or Senate in the 2026 midterms, the legislative window closes, and the meme coin numbers become the dominant framing of the Trump crypto era.

The show's host put it plainly: Bitcoin will be dragged into the same conversation as the meme coin losses. The Trump coin and Melania coin are both down over 99% from their highs. That is not a Bitcoin story, but it will be told as one.

The disclosure cuts two ways. The Bitcoin holdings confirm the administration's stated commitment is backed by real money in cold storage. The meme coin billions confirm that the political liability heading into 2026 and beyond is real, and it is not going away.
